LUPE: the character with the magnifying glass, giant eye amplified through the lens.

Lupe is one of those characters you invent by drawing: you start with an eye, add a magnifying glass, then the hand holding it, then the whole little body. Ends up being a detective without a case, a scientist without a lab, a permanent curious one. Bit of mini Sherlock Holmes, bit of "Where's Waldo" looking everywhere. The magnifying glass as visual tool — the same one Vermeer used for the impossible details in "The Lacemaker" (1670) or the one on thousands of detective novel covers.
