I've always liked slugs. They don't carry a house like the snail — travel lighter, don't care about the world's speed. There's something punk about moving at your own pace and leaving a shiny trail. Slugs are also hermaphrodites: each individual is both male and female at the same time, and when they mate they do it hanging from a mucus thread mid-air. Zero social pressure, zero assigned gender, zero gravity. The slug is the most free animal in the garden.
