Description
VERTIGO JAMES in polo sweatshirt form (no zipper, crew neck, no hood).
Vertigo (1958) — James Stewart. Obsession seen from the inside.
James Stewart in Vertigo is Scottie: the ex-cop with a fear of heights who becomes obsessed with a woman he believes dead. What fascinates me about the character isn't the obsession itself, but the mechanics with which Hitchcock films it. Every shot of Scottie looking is a shot of us looking with him. We're accomplices in the disaster that's coming.
For this design I wanted to capture that specific instant: the fixed gaze, the vertigo isn't physical but mental. The background texture simulates the dolly zoom effect Hitchcock invented for this film — the image where the background pulls away while the character stays still. A visual device later used by Jaws, Goodfellas, and a thousand other films.
Part of the VERTIGO collection alongside the Kim Novak design. The two designs complement each other: him looking, her being looked at.
Each piece is unique because there is no original piece. 100% cotton polo sweatshirt, hand screen-printed in 1 color.
