Description
Jaiba Mora (Purple Crab): part of the Viva Mar collection, in collaboration with Viva Mar aquarium in La Serena, Chile.
The jaiba mora (Homalaspis plana) is one of the most characteristic crab species of the Chilean rocky coast. It inhabits tide pools and surf zones, with a shell of purple and violet tones that give it its name. It's a fundamental piece of the intertidal ecosystem: eats algae and organic remains, and in turn becomes food for gulls, octopuses, and fish. It's the crab that appears in tide pools when you go to the beach as a kid — the one you scare into hiding and that comes back a moment later.
The design depicts it in its most recognizable pose: claws open, ready to defend or attack. Hand-drawn shell texture details. Hand-pulled screen print on a purple tee, a palette that echoes the animal's own color. 100% cotton.
Your purchase supports marine conservation: part of every tee sold goes back to Viva Mar.
