Description

The Tool:

Hard not to get fired up making a special design for Tool's visit to Chile. They've always been a huge influence on everything I've developed aesthetically. Finding a Tool video clip on TV in the 90s was by far the most hypnotic, rupturing thing you could see at the time. A tsunami of metalanguage, layer upon layer of codes, enigmatic symbols in every direction. And whether there's meaning or not is beside the point — this design already comes with the code inserted.

Searching for symbolic connections with Chile, I landed on the Chilean mummies — the oldest in the world, 7,000 years old or more. Unlike the Egyptians, the Chinchorro made no class distinction when it came to mummifying.

Sitting in the pose of eternal waiting, wearing Oculus Rift–style goggles with the band's logo on them, opening up new spiritual states and the whole trance connection of psychedelic art (Alex Grey), unlocking the third eye, the fourth, and the fifth with a double pupil just in case. The metaphor of the mummy waiting 8,000 years for the band — "We are spirit bound to this flesh." With 7 toes on one foot and "One foot nailed down." Pneuma.

Her mummification cords in an aura of sacred geometry. Lots of interpretations, and the ritual goes on.

Each piece is unique because there is no original piece.

Single-color screen print. Black version.

The Design
Stumbling onto a Tool video on TV in the 90s was easily the most hypnotic and disruptive thing you could see at the time. A tsunami of meta-language, layers upon layers of codes.
