"They Scream" is a crossover design of 2 iconic references from pop culture and cult cinema. The "Screaming Hand" by Jim Phillips designed for Santa Cruz skateboards in (1985). And the movie "They Live" by John Carpenter (1988) where a man finds glasses that allow him to see people in their true alien form and read all the subliminal messages intended to turn humans into a slave species of consumerism.
In this new design, the screaming hand is intervened with the same application used on the aliens in Carpenter's film. The illustration was drawn and inked on paper then screen printed onto t-shirts. The name "They Scream" is a mix of the two references: "They" from (They Live) and Scream from the "screaming hand."
Below the hand illustration, a texture is built from all the subliminal messages we see hidden in Carpenter's movie: Obey, Consume, Conform, Yield, No thoughts, Buy, Marry and reproduce, This is your God...etc. Worked in such a way that they remain on a subliminal plane like a block of red color. The codes and symbols in this design reflect on the ideology of the product from the art piece to the ideological implant in the collective unconscious. But what's interesting beyond the conceptual foundation is the artisanal serial work of returning the image to a medium using screen printing as a resignification of value to the unique piece. Each piece is unique as there is no original piece. 100% Cotton T-shirt. Screen printed in 3 colors.
