Buzo: the design that's 6 years old and won't stop mutating

What a thing it is to find the originals. This one's 6 years old and has gone through multiple versions in shirts and hoodies. What never changes: everything starts with pencil and paper.

Why the Buzo

There's something about the old diving suit — the bronze, the bolts, the round helmet with its little windows — that connects me to the same feeling as the Universal classics. It's human technology pushed to the limit, armor against an environment that doesn't belong to us. The diver is the deep sea astronaut — a human who goes where they shouldn't and does it anyway.

This specific Buzo is a monster disguised as an explorer. Tentacles coming out from everywhere, the pressure of the abyss in every line of the suit, something alive and threatening fused with the technology. It's not the diver you send down — it's the diver you find when you go too deep.

Version 2.0

People had been asking for it. I wanted to do a reprint but not the same thing — I wanted a 2.0 that respected the original but had all the learning of six years on top of it. More line, more detail, better color separation. The same Buzo but with six more years of craft in every stroke.

The original has that first-sketch energy that goes straight to a shirt. The 2.0 has that same energy plus the control that time gives you. Both coexist — the original for people who've known it forever, the new version for people arriving now.

Frequently asked questions

How many versions of the Buzo exist? +

The design is 6 years old and has gone through several versions in shirts and hoodies. The current version is 2.0 — same spirit as the original, plus 6 years of craft on top.

Is Buzo available as a hoodie too? +

Yes. Buzo is available as a shirt and as a hoodie.

Why a vintage diving suit and not a modern diver? +

The vintage brass helmet diving suit connects to the same feeling as the Universal classics: human technology pushed to the limit, armor against an environment that doesn't belong to us.

How was the original Buzo born? +

In the sketchbook, 6 years ago. It appeared as a sketch and never disappeared. What doesn't change across any version: everything starts with pencil and paper.
