And Judas is coming!
I've been into roosters for a while now, so it felt quite natural for me to morph the Painkiller's motorcycle into the metallic, diving bird with killer turbo weapons from Screaming for Vengeance. And the "Turbo Cock" concept, while it has several interpretations under the Judas name, works perfectly for what I wanted to do. When I was drawing, I felt like I was back in technical drawing classes at the University. Back to the ruler and the drawing board, infinite concentration to avoid screwing up, and you can't imagine the joy of working on paper.

The first Judas album I heard was Painkiller. It was summers in the south with my cousin Rafa in the early '90s. I didn't know much about the band, but I was immediately blown away by the power, extreme speed, and technique that are the very embodiment of metal. It's no wonder Schuldiner of Death closes "Sound of Perseverance" with a Painkiller cover. In an interview before the concert in Chile in '98, he himself talks about how important that album was for him and for the metal world, especially in the '90s, when they had to reinvent themselves somehow. Personally, I think Judas continues to make incredible albums; they have their well-oiled formula, but they always manage to surprise. My favorites remain Screaming for Vengance and Painkiller. Then I realized that SFV is from 1982, just like Number of the Beast. I was born in '82.

But this new design is not only a tribute to the band but also to the master Doug Johnson (Canadian), who marked a milestone in the visual history of metal with the artwork for Screaming for Vengance and two other albums. A great move that gave the band a new visual identity and freshness. I feel the SFV artwork is a perfect cover. A master of 80s airbrushing with impeccable geometric deconstruction, an ode to diagonals, strong colors, and graphic speed. It also incorporates the graphic influence of video games, and while the logo maintained the diagonal, the geometric block of 3D extrusion was added.
